As learning is an important process, skills development is also becoming increasingly important. Nowadays, the chance of being employed depends largely on how perfect is your skills. Thus, courses on ‘Personal and Professional Development’ can help to develop and train our skills. Personal and Professional Development can be defined as ‘an individual sets out the goals, strategies and outcomes of learning and training’ (Anon, 2012). There is a difference between personal development and professional development. In my understanding, personal development is the skills which improve one self’s talents and potential in personal and work life. While, professional development is developing one self’s role in the job and how to improve it effectively throughout the working life. It may also include formal or informal training and development programs that lead to a career succeed. Other than personal and professional development, employability and transferable skills are important as well. According to Stemnet (2015), employability skills are defined as ‘the transferable skills needed by an individual to make them employable’. Nowadays, employers often seek for employee who is effective in employability skills. Employee has to know how to present their knowledge, skills and attitudes to the employers in order to being employed.
