Major points Race is a group of people who share the same set of characteristics that seem to be very important to society. It a well-known term it could be Blacks or Whites either way many people get judge because of their race. In our textbook page 205 it talks about how scientist have found that less than 0.01% of our genes has to do with race. “Race is a social concept, not a scientific one”. How amazing is that, that our race has really nothing to do with how smart or “dumb” we are but yet we will still get judge based on it. Ethnicity refers to characteristics of groups associated with national origins, languages, and culture/religious practices. Some examples could be Hispanic’s, White American, or Native American. Expulsion is the process of forcing a population to move from a certain place. This can be compared to when the whites came and made the Native Americans leave their own land. In today’s world this is still happening although many people probably don’t think so, it happens due to wars and ethnic/sectarian conflicts. Segregation is the separation of people due to their race or ethnicity. When I think segregation I think Martin Luther King and how he fought for the right of all colored people to be treated equally. We all know how harsh they were treated, they couldn’t use the same bathrooms as us or even eat at the same restaurants all because the color of their skin. Assimilation is the absorption of a minority group into the dominant culture. Cultural pluralism is the coexistence of different racial and ethnic groups, characterized by acceptance of one another’s difference. Racism is the thought that one race is better than another, it results in people be treated wrongly for no reason at all. Just because your skin is blue and someone with red skin thinks you’re less than them they will put you down. Mixed contact is the interaction between someone who is stigmatized and those who are “normal. Prejudice is a thought on someone or some group and despite evidence or facts you cannot change that person view or beliefs about the subject they are prejudice about. Stereotyping is a set of characteristics to all members of a group. An example of how people face stereotyping is someone is Mexican they assume they won’t graduate college or someone is white and someone else assumes there rich. Discrimination is unequal treatment to someone due to their membership of a group. Individual discrimination is unequal treatment that is done purposely and usually due to the fact that the person is prejudice. An example of this could be maybe your trying to adopt a new puppy but due to the color of your skin the person won’t let you buy it.
