During the ancient times of society, one idea would be passed down to all societies which is still used in today’s society which would separate the people based on several factors. This idea would be used even in today’s society as a way to separate the people within the society. This idea would be the establishment of the social hierarchy which would separate the society based on power, wealth, importance, race, etc. For example, the President of the United states is part of the upper class due to his power, wealth and importance while a farmer in the United States would be in the lower class due to his wealth. All the people within the society assume that one person is higher than another based on their gender and their life mandate and the power that comes with the life mandate. Using a previous example from paragraph two, when Equality walked into the World Council of Scholars to present his invention, the Scholars said “A Street Sweeper! A Street Sweeper walking in upon the World Council of Scholars!” (Rand 69) which in this example, they are referring themselves as a higher being in the society than a simple street sweeper because they assume they are placed higher in the idea of a social hierarchy than a “lower class” than a street sweeper due to their power. Women are placed lower in the social hierarchy due to their power as a peasant compared to a scholar who has a lot of power in the society. These point that I listed above show the idea of a social hierarchy and how it is used in the society itself. Using the main points that were listed above, The social hierarchy in the society of Anthem tie in with the idea of society that everyone should be the same and equality is not existent in the society.
