Nowadays, in our integrating age, the word “soft skills” is mentioned widely through academic to workplace environment. As can be seen clearly, though many students graduate from university with first class degree or excellent marks, they even cannot receive a good job at a highly reputable company. The human resource practitioner and employers still find that graduates are lacking and mismatching the relevant soft skill competencies required in their job positions. So what are “soft skills” and how the employers these days think of it?

In some multinational enterprises, employers are looking for graduates who come to them with already fully equipped “must-have” soft skills such as time-management, teamwork, negotiation and interpersonal skills; Carl Gilleard, Chief Executive of The Association of Graduate Recruiters (2013) said that many of organizations regard a constructive gap year during college as an ideal way of gaining soft skills while in another study which is taken from the perspective of employers, emphasizing that students should have a balance of soft and hard skills, where hard skills should embed soft skills for undertaken jobs (Kemper 1999).
