Sustainable development as development that meets the needs of the present without affecting the requirements of the future generations. Over the past 15–20 years, sustainable development has become a generally acknowledged and given much more importance to.
The university of Manipal has constantly made an effort to contribute towards this agenda over many years by going green .
The University of is located in the lush green town of Manipal (Latitude 13° 20 ' 60 N, Longitude: 74° 46 ' 60 E), 5 kilometers east of National highway 17. The surrounding are comprises of rural farmlands, gentle hills and in land waterways. The climate generally remains humid and warm throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 25 to 38 degrees C. Manipal University formerly known as Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is a renowned university that provides world class education and healthcare for over 50 years. Manipal University is situated over 600 acres of land with 20,000 inhabitants. Over the years the University has transformed and strived into becoming a green campus. The University also fulfils the need to educate and conduct research in the area of environment and sustainability in order to improve the ongoing problems faced due to pollution etc. The University encourages research through various Government and European Commission funded projects.
