The job market is currently the most competitive it has ever been, a job seeking individual should possess skills that will outshine their competitors. There are three traits that will make or break someone 's chance at employment with an establishment. The three essential skills that relate to major categories of performance are, time management, critical thinking and the last skill that one should have is people skills. Many people often say they were terminated due to tardiness. Therefore time management is critical in obtaining and maintaining a job as it has great predictive value. People tend to always want to appease their superior. When people always want to make sure that they are pleasing their boss to a T they tend to think less critically. They get stuck in a mindset that resembles a punnett square since it delivers reliable results each time, it is the safe bet so they never end up taking risks. But it is necessary to think outside of the box and not be such a people pleaser because businesses thrive on innovative minds. Being too methodical will limit one’s potential, one should never be a yes man since it will chip away at their individuality. New innovations do not result from black and white thinking. An extreme example of this mentality can be found in Pink Floyd’s The Wall. There is a scene in which kids are falling into a meat grinder and coming out as “meat”. This symbolizes being mindless and following the flock in doing this the person is essentially stagnant sludge. Most people have been wired to think like everyone else. An example of this would be how Western culture has this expectation that in order to have a fulfilled life your need to follow the ever so plowed pathway of going to college and getting married then starting a family. Which can sometimes not lead to a satisfied life. People often overlook that they do not have to do all of these things in this order and they can even decide not to get married and have kids and still have a meaningful existence. Moreover people need to be unapologetic and not be ashamed of their ideas even if they seem unconventional because they will ultimately lead to growth and progress which insure an individual will not fall victim to the herd
