There are many Benedictine Values that apply to the field of nursing. Specifically, all of them apply to IVF in our scenario and the ethical components. The first Benedictine value of Awareness of God applies to our ethical scenario though the Nurse believing that they should turn to her religion or God for guidance on the scenario. This can help in the decision making to provide care for the patient as well as everyday life events. It is the duty of the nurse to accept what the patient has chosen to do in terms of IVF and offer acceptance with that choice. It is just and fair that the patient who cannot naturally conceive has the same opportunities as other families to conceive a child. Additionally, the nurse should treat all families in a just order and fairness. The sixth Benedictine value of Listening is essential in all nursing careers and in our scenario. Throughout nursing school, we have been taught the importance of listening to our patients, creating a trustworthy relationship. It is important in our scenario that the nurse listens to the wants, values, and virtues of the patient who is considering IVF. This can build a relationship in which the patient can feel heard and understood by health care providers. The seventh Benedictine value of Moderation is also applicable to our scenario through the nurse creating a work life balance.
