Familial bonds can influence the development of a kid's decision making skills. When parents are not there for their kids all the time nor do they have the best relationship with them, this can influence their child’s decision making skills. An example of this is shown in Shakespeare’s play, Henry IV Part 1 where Hal, a teenager, struggles with his relationship with his father (who is the king) at the beginning of the play. However, throughout the play his relationship with his father gets better and he starts to make better decisions. Without a strong familial bond, the lack of connection leads to poor decision making. At the beginning of the play and most likely before, Hal and his father did not have the best relationship which influenced his decision making skills in a bad way. This is because Hal took the initiative to change himself with the intent of pleasing his father. Through his actions, Hal was able to prove to his father that he was a serious person and that he was ready to become the future leader of his father’s nation. Examples of the actions Hal has taken include: getting involved in the war (which he had not done before), being a leader and assigning roles to people, giving orders to people, fighting in the war, and making decisions regarding what actions he and his army should take in the war. While this was all happening, Hal’s relationship with his father was improving. Clearly, Hal’s relationship with his father improved, “Stay, and breathe awhile. Thou hast redeemed thy lost opinion/And showed thou mak’st some tender of my life/ In this fair rescue thou hast brought to me” (5.4.47-50) From this quote, it can be inferred that due to Hal’s transformation, his bond with his father improved and he was able to make better decisions hence, proving the argument that strong familial bonds impact decision
