Who really influenced Josh in No Promises in the Wind? The book No Promises in the Wind is written by Irene Hunt. In the story, Josh and Joey Grondowski leave home due to financial struggles hoping to experience a better life. Many characters in this story are influential, but one stands above the rest. Josh Grondowski is most influenced by Lon Bromer, otherwise known as Lonnie. He was very kind, generous, and welcoming to Josh, as well as Joey. Lonnie has driven them on when all they wanted to do was go on. He has driven them to a carnival when a woman in Nebraska suggested they may be able to get a job there. Lonnie was almost always there when the boys needed him. The first time Joey and Josh met Lonnie, on page 73, Lonnie asked if they had any change, and when the boys said no, he responded with, “Well, I’ve been broke quite a few times myself- I know how it feels. Later on in the story, when Josh is at Lonnie’s home, Lonnie fed Josh good and gave him medicine while he was sick.
