Some of the most successful stories are: “The Tell Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” These stories show how talented Poe was when his stories focused on horror.
Edgar Allan Poe wrote many famous suspenseful short stories and poems like The Tell Tale Heart,The Raven and the Black Cat. Poe’s tragic life affected his writing in a variety of ways. He had a life filled with constant depression and sadness. Events in his life that affected his writing were his family and loved ones, alcoholism, and poverty. This might be an indication of why his gothic works are very unsettling and tense, because of the events he had noticed in his life.

After his parents died, he lived with another family member who never accepted him as their own son. Later on in life, Poe had served in the military and at that point he started writing poems.

Through these and many more, Poe has been using his writing style to immerse people into his stories and poems alike since 1839. However, Poe is only able to accomplish this through his unique writer’s style, particularly his forceful imagery and meaningful syntax.
