I am honored to be among the thousands applying for such an amazing organization such as the National Honor Society (NHS). I believe that the NHS does so many remarkable things for our society, and I am certain that I can help contribute to its development. The function of the National Honors Society is to recognize the achievements of students in and outside of school. Its job is to not only commemorate those who made honor roll, but also those who have shown outstanding service, character, and leadership.
March 15, 2023 Dear National Honor Society Chapter and Faculty Council, When I was six, I refused to eat pizza with my hands at the risk of appearing “unprofessional” to prospective employers. When I was 12, I took my first practice SAT test on CollegeBoard, calculating anticipated growth to compare against prestigious colleges. When I transitioned to high school, I fixated on the future, weighing extracurriculars primarily for their contributions to my resume. Surrounded by a high-achieving and competitive culture, application to the National Honors Society seems obligatory. However, as I’ve matured, through engagement with Fairview and the organization, I’ve learned that NHS is substantially more than a resume-builder.
The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. NHS has impacted my life because the organization has opened my eyes to what an honor society is. Like most members at first I believed that the organization primary focus was about the measure of one 's intelligence and persoal accolades. But, quickly I came to the understanding that the National Honor Society is an orgination whose beliefs are predicated on being a well roudned person. In life there are many narrow minded individuals, who only focus on one thing, such as money, intelligence, or success. But to be a truly well-rounded person you need to have more than one quality.
It is a great honor to be nominated as a member of the National Honor Society. There are many reasons why I want to take part in NHS. One reason why I want to be in it is to continue to grow academically with people who have the same goals as me. I want to be encouraged, not discouraged by the people around me. If I get into NHS, it will give me a lot of opportunities to be a leader.
National Junior Honors Society needs people who are hard working, and are ready to get the job done. I should be considered to be in National Junior Honors Society because I show scholarship and leadership, I have done many community service activities, and I show character and citizenship. I have done many activities involving scholarship and leadership. I am in violin, chorus, and other in-school and after school activities. This means I am familiar with other sides of school, and I can share my experiences and try to make them fit into what we do/what is done in NJHS.
I have always enjoyed teaching people and helping them learn so that they can succeed in school. I got involved with tutoring through National Honor Society and the A+ Scholarship Program. With National Honor Society there is many service opportunities that I am able to be involved in and I do as many as possible, but tutoring homebound has always been what I've prefered to do. This is very important to me because many of these students aren't in class to learn directly from a teacher so things can become confusing fairly quickly and I like to be there to help as much as I am able to. Even at times when it is something that I am not proficient in it becomes a learning experience for me as well as the student I am tutoring.
The National Honors Society is an phenomenal organization that allows students to help children, the elderly, and other organizations. I would be honored to join this organization because of the endless opportunities that it presents to me. Joining NHS would allow me to continue to grow as a person while helping others in the process. I have shown examples of scholarship, character, leadership and service over the years i’ve been in high school that I believe meets the standards to qualify for this extraordinary organization. The word scholarship means “academic study or achievement, learning at a high level”.
My Values of becoming a part of the NJHS I am Lauren Forsyth and a student of Catonsville Middle School. I feel that I should be a part of National Junior Honor Society because of my dedication towards volunteering, leadership and citizenship. The following essay will demonstrate how I have dedicated my time towards volunteering, leadership and citizenship. As of 2016, I have dedicated myself to 47 hours of service learning and giving back to my community is a very important part of my life. In 6th grade I created a fundraiser to help breast cancer awareness to help find a cure for breast cancer and I had earned 5 service learning hours with two hundred dollars raised in total at my school.
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. When I was 14, I saw my remarkable cousin walk across the stage to receive her award for all her years of dedication to be inducted into National Honor Society. She encompassed all the requirements for entrance into the National Honor Society and ever since then, I have had my mindset on following in her footsteps and stepping even farther to conquer the indefinite. As I opened the letter to be invited to apply for membership, I could not even remember the last time my eyes and smile sprouted that immense because to me, being nominated to be a member of the National Honor Society is an honor in itself. I would be thrilled to join such a society because of the limitless opportunities it would present to me. Joining NHS would allow me to grow as a person and do as much as I can for others.
