Have you ever had a life-threatening situation, or been so shocked you almost passed out? The two stories “The Interlopers” a story of two men hunting each other in the woods and “The Story of an Hour” where a woman grieves about her deceased husband, portrays these events in an exciting way. Once you start reading them, you won’t want to stop. Although most readers would find these two stories “The Interlopers” and “The Story of an Hour” totally different or completely the same, it is apparent that they share similarities but also contrasting elements. The irony that is apparent in these short essays is that both characters are joyful about their accomplice’s death, but unfortunately for them, they are the ones killed in the end. Although most of the readers of these stories would be melancholy about the main character’s death, these deaths are somewhat deserved because of the hate toward their accomplice and the joy of their death. In “The Story of an Hour” the wife of the deceased husband has feelings of sadness after the news of her spouse’s death is announces. But after a few minutes, she has inappropriate feelings of joy that he is dead and that she was free at last. After this frenzy of joy had surpasses she descended down the stairs to find her husband alive and well. This sudden shock kills her, and when the doctors come, they suspect it is from heart failure. For these reasons, it is showed that the death of this woman is somewhat deserved.
