The automobile was basically the root to all other technology , for example , they helped bring the success of the movie industry, because people had faster transportation to the the movie theaters . After the first radio station in 1920 , by 1922 600 radio stations had been created . It 70 percent of all americans had a radio . Radio had become a passtime to many listeners , gathering families in living rooms just to listen to news , sports , live shows and music . Crystal radios were the first radios to be manufactured and used , why ? These radios were easy to make from home . Lead galena and cat whiskers were needed to catch the signal for the radio . People built their own radio because the supplies was so cheap , all the supplies to build it was only 6 dollars . Radios began to upgrade as years went by , to wooden with antennas and signal collectors , to 250 watt transmitters and lastly to plastic batteryless .
