The Island of Doctor Moreau The Island of Doctor Moreau is written by the author H.G. Wells. It was published by Dodo Press. The purpose of the book is meant to be a science fiction book. The setting of this book takes place on a small island in the Pacific Ocean. The time this story is set in is in the 1890’s. The main character and narrator of this story is a man named Edward Prendick. He becomes thrown into a situation after the ship he was riding on began to sink. This story is a very adventurous science fiction story had a great plot and great main idea. During the story, Dr. Moreau starts to become aware that the vivisection he is performing to craft animals into human beings is dangerous. However, he considered the implications, dangers, and morality of the vivisection he was performing to craft animals into human beings. The book is narrated by Prendick. Prendick tells us of many adventurous events. The first of those events is one when the book opens up and Prendick had just escaped the sinking ship of the Lady Vein. He along with two other guys escaped on a dingey. Since they were low on food two of the guys fought and they both fall in the ocean and are ate by a shark. Prendick drifts for days befor he is finally rescued by a passing ship, the Ipecacuanha. On the ship Prendick befriends a man named Montgomery. He and Montgomery however are not the best of friends with the captain, Captain Davis. Once Montgomery is off-loaded Captain Davis does not hesitate to kick Prendick of the ship because he had been on the ship for free. He thinks he is being hunted and feels like prey. He then walks upon the entrance and open door of Dr. Moreau’s lab and enters uninvited. He walks in on Montgomery and Moreau cutting into and experimenting on a live man. He feared he would be next so he fled back into the forest again. Prendick runs into an ape man, half ape and half man, upon his flee. He is then welcomed into their society. Moreau and Montgomery find where Prendick is and Prendick then flees once again, and is them cornered by Montgomery on the beach. Montgomery tells him to go back to the enclosure with him so he can explain. Montgomery explains the situation to Prendick about how their objective was to make the Apemen completely human. Prendick is them attacked by a puma he had recently let loose. The puma fled from near the enclosure while Doctor Moreau pursued him leaving Prendick to deal by himself with his injuries. Montgomery arrives at the enclosure and helps out Prendick with his newly broken arm. Montgomery is then unfortunately killed in a scruff on the beach. He had been trying to have a good time and have a bonfire. On top of his death, the enclosure they had been living in had burned down. Prendick
