In 1861, the Civil War began against the two sides the North and South.The Civil War started over uncompromising differences between free states,and slave states because the national government was trying to prohibit slavery in territories that have not become free states yet. Confederates were fighting in the states of Virginia and Tennessee, with an army made up of poor white farmers and black slaves. At the end of the war the North won meaning the government abolished slavery. Newton Knight, started the Knight Company in Jones County, Mississippi during the Civil War, and rebelled against the confederacy. Newton Knight started the Knight Company in Jones County during the Civil War because Confederacy officials were arresting men who had abandoned the war, and burning down farms along with driving out Newton Knights wife and children. When the Knight Company was created, the small army was made up of runaway slaves and farmers who wanted to rebel against the Confederacy because of the harassment and torture they had been through. Once Knight fled the war he found that his wife and children were not home because, the Confederacy took everything in the home,so they fled to the Georgia so the family can live there.When he saw that his family was not there he fled to the swamps so the Confederacy can not find him because he did not want to be arrested and be forced back into war. While Knight was living in the swamps more farmer abandoned the war and took their families with them so they could not go back to war also. The conflict between the Confederacy and the Knight Company started over two boys getting hanged because they got caught stealing ,with the Knight Company,corn back from the Confederacy,and more and more slaves were being
