THE KOREAN WAR

• HISTORICAL BACKGROUND :

Korea during its history managed to recollect its independence for large periods of time. But, since the 16th century AD, it was the main aim of Japanese imperialism. Koreans used Chinese support to repel the Japanese danger, but the latter replied with more force. That eventually led Korea to become Japan’s protectorate (1905) and fully invaded 1910 The peninsula endured in Japanese hands until the end of the Second World War. After the Potsdam and Cairo declarations, Korea recovered its independence. The Japanese army submitted to the Soviet forces in the North part , the American forces in the South part of the peninsula and Korea was divided. The conflict …show more content…

The Soviet government collaborated with Communist China in order to maintain the strategic benefit of the North without provoking any reaction by the United States. Stalin initially banned the North Korean plans, but in 1950 approved the expansion of military operations limited the 38th parallel

In 1949, Mao Zedong and the Communist party took over the government of the country announcing the People’s Republic of China. However until 1971, the seat of China in the UN was occupied by the nationalist government partial in Taiwan. The issue was solved due to the lack of identifications presented by the Taiwanese government about authority on the whole of China. When the Soviets go to the UN proceedings, the UN Security Council had already decided thus, they revolved to diplomacy outside the UN Security Council and General Assembly.

However, President Truman saw the Soviet Involvement not just as a simple act of support to the opposite site. He believed that if this provocative intrusion wasn’t dealt effectively, the Soviets and their allies would consider further hostile actions just like the Japanese, the Germans and the Italians did because of the failed effort of appeasement.
However, the conflict between the two superpowers wasn’t just a clash of ideologies because if the United States were found unable to protect one of their key allies as South Korea was observed in the UN, the legitimacy of their foreign policy would be intensely hurt, letting for other states to question the American interests.
