The biggest challenges faced by America in the Korean War were, Korea not being able to defend itself, tactics Korean communist troops used against America and soldiers thinking the war as useless while questioning “What are we fighting for?” The Korean War lasted from 1950 to 1953, beginning when the North Korean communist army crossed the 38th parallel and invaded non-communist South Korea. As Kim II-sung's North Korean troops armed with soviet tanks, quickly overran South Korea and the United States came to South Korea's aid. If South Korea was not able to carry itself without the Unite States and the Soviet Union getting involved then that would cause another world war, because all of Korea would become communist because of North Korea …show more content…

While China and North Korea were fighting against South Korea and trying to take over all of Korea they would use certain tactics, they fought to seize American weapons. They combined guerilla tactics with shrewd use of modern weapons, and made use of night attacks.

“These men would strip overcoats and parkas from our (South Koreans & U.S) dead soldiers and try to make us believe they were friends, others learned to yell “medic” to trick us into revealing our positions” (Doc 4.) The North Koreans totaled close to one hundred and fifty thousand men and without airpower and sea power they mauled us badly. All of these issues were getting the U.S killed too quickly yet either way the North Koreans and Chinese had way more men which was canceling us (South Korea and U.S) out. “No it isn't surprising if the GI’s at the front ask “What are we fighting for…?” they haven't been told and the honest front certainly isn't doing much to inspire them with its “business and pleasure as usual” also one of the reasons the GI’s might question is because the North Koreans and the Chinese have more men, have better health and are faster. “We are fighting men who can live for a week in the mountains with just a little bag of rice. Where we have to travel by road they travel over the mountains and just beat us to where we are going”. (Hook Exercise).
