Independent Reading Paper Often when discussing children’s stories the word “villain” is used to describe what is known as the bad guy. According to the dictionary definition villain is described as “a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot” (Dictonary.com).
When you think of hero you may think about the Marvel or DC universes. But Joseph Cambell made steps that people are following to become a hero. Percy Jackson in The Lightning theif follows the steps in the hero’s journey. The lightning theif aligns with the hero’s journey because There are many events in the Lightning theif that aligns with the Hero’s journey.
In the '' Lightning Thief''' by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson and his two friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood went on a quest with him, helping Percy to find the stolen lightning bold, and to retrieve Zeus lighting bold. Lightning Thief novel and film are fantasy and Greek mythology. Because Percy Jackson went on a quest to prevent a war against the gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. The novel and the film has many similarities, but there are so many differences that set the two apart. There are many similarities between the novel ''Lightning Thief '' and the film.
Percy Jackson, the main character in The Lightning Thief ,is following the path of the hero in “Hero’s journey” On Percy’s life a teacher has become his mentor. In the Lightning Thief Percy says “But Mr.Brunner expected me to be as good as everybody else, despite the fact that I have dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and I had never made above a C- in my life” In this quote, percy expresses his feelings on how he is frustrated with himself and his teacher. In hero's journey a quote shows about mentors, “Heroes are almost started on their journey by a character who has mastered the laws of the outside world and come back to bestow this wisdom upon them.” That is how The Lightning Thief is compared to hero's journey.
Anakin Skywalker is another character that has both a good and evil side. Anakin starts out as being good he was a young boy on Tatooine. He was a slave that was always tinkering with things. Anakin first meets jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. After Qui-Gon Jinn dies and Anakin frees himself by winning a race on Tatooine Obi-Wan Kenobi takes Anakin Skywalker as his apprentice.
“You’ll need these to help you get to the underworld” then he tries to kill Percy. “give me the lighting bolt Percy” Luke said. (“Percy Jackson”) Luke helping Percy in the beginning, then trying to take the bolt from Percy. Shows Luke tried to help then to hurt Percy makes him a shapeshifter.
In books the main characters befriend people that are very different from themselves. After befriending these people they are taught the way they do things and adapt to them. One book that has a character that learns from somebody who is opposite of them is Percy in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Similarly, in the book Loot the characters learn from the leader of their group to plan ahead. Friendships are based on one person being a planner and one being a do-er.
A Man That Was Our President, A Villain?! A villain usually wears masks and wants to destroy the world, but that’s not the case this time. This time we are talking about a man who rides a horse and just happened to be the president of the United States. A man that bribed people to help him become president.
The Lightning Thief book and and movie are both great but have many differences and similarities. One similarity that they both have is that Grover is Percy’s protector and has to pretend that he is human even though he is also half goat. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth all look way older than in the book because in the book it said that Percy was 12 and that Grover and Annabeth were around the same age but in the movie they look more like 16 years old. In the book and in the movie, all three of them go to Medusa's shop but in the book they stayed longer because they didn’t know it was Medusa right away and Medusa was acting nice and feeding them. In the movie they went in the shop and split up and after they did that, Grover realized that it was

In the story “The Lightning Thief”, Rick Riordan uses imagery to paint clear pictures of the characters and places. He describes his characters to the point where you can picture what they look like, sound like, and even act like. Riordan uses dialogue to show the interaction in between the characters. His exemplary usage of dialogue puts a fun new perspective on the characters communication. Lastly but most importantly he uses an exciting tone to keep the reader interested.
Today was hot. Not just any kind of hot, but extreme temperatures soared high on the planet of Tatooine where water was scarce. Luke Skywalker, a blonde haired and blue-eyed boy, with lots of energy lived with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru on a moisture farm in the middle of a desert. Not only was today hot, however Luke’s life, as he knows it, is about to change right before his very own eyes. Luke can be classified as a hero under Joseph Campbell’s ten characteristics of a mythical hero because throughout his life, Luke illustrates each characteristic on the vast journey he partakes in to topple the Galactic Empire.

Macbeth shows the readers that his amiton gets in the way and makes him do things that are considered “evil” until the end of the play. Macbeth is thinking to himself that it is not fair that Duncan 's kids will become king so he kills Duncan and has his sons flee.
