The last form of writing is expressive writing, which is where the author writes about more personal things such as their feelings and experiences. The next question you should ask yourself when analyzing writing is who is the intended audience? The intended audience is important to know because many authors write their essays based on how the audience will react by structuring their writing a certain way and using specific words. The next question to answer is what is the thesis or main idea? Finding the thesis or main idea will reveal to you the author's main reason for writing the essay. The following questions are what are the key ideas and supporting evidence or details and what helpful marginal notes can you make as you read? In order to answer these questions it is important that you take notes and underline and highlight important points of the essay. The next question is can you summarize what you have read in your own words? This is where your notes, underlining, and highlighting will come in. In your own words do your best to summarize what you have read. The last question is how would you evaluate what you have
