Narrative Structure
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is the title of the novel. The title is very creepy yet intriguing, making it significant as the reader questions whose bones these are and why they might be seen as lovely. It captures the essence of the ideas in the novel as Mr Harvey has previously killed two animals, and kept the bones. These bones could be seen as ‘lovely’ as they represent the times which Mr Harvey has restricted himself from brutally murdering another child; "What I think was hardest for me to realize was that he had tried each time to stop himself. He had killed animals, lesser lives, to keep from killing a child”.
The main plot is developed by frequent visits to Susie’s past to help the reader understand the storyline
