There were many important events that led up to the Civil War. However, a select few were the main cause of it. I would say the Fugitive Slave Act, Dred Scott vs. Sandford, and the 1860 Election all led up the the Civil War. The Fugitive Slave Act was a big part because it inspired civil disobedience in northerners. They gave money to people to buy freedom, refused to convict people accused of breaking the law, and formed the Underground Railroad. It wasn’t until 1853 when Franklin Pierce became president and decided to enforce the Act that everything really started going downhill.
