The man who mistook his wife for a hat is by Oliver Sacks . This book is about a professor who is looking a little to identical to the character Mr. Magoo . In this story , we see a professor whose name is , Dr. P . Dr. P is a musician of distinction , as he is described by the author . Dr. P was well known all over for his singing and is now the local music teacher . It was there at the school where his students started to notice there was something quite not right with him. The first incident was when a student approached Dr. P and he did not recognize not just him but his face ! The only way for the student to be recognized was for him to speak . P ; these issues consist of embarrassment , perplexity , and fear and not to mention the functioning of everyday life . Not only did Dr. P . continue to fail to see faces , but he also saw faces when there were no faces like the author describes it , Magoo-like , when he is walking down the street he might think he's patting the heads of children or animals , however , in reality he is patting water hydrants and parking meters , he would be astounded when they did not reply back . With such problems , we see that it has become difficult for Dr. P to teach and to function in his everyday life . As these issues occur Dr. P recognizes that his sight is affecting his life and could potentially be life-threatening, so he makes the decision to go to see an ophthalmologist. The Doctor took tests after tests , however , the test results did not show any issues with Dr. P's vision . The issue laid within the visual parts of his brain . Upon this result the doctor then sent him to a neurologist
