Have you ever worked super hard for something and good things came out of it? Or in other words have you won a competition or just have done really good at something that you tried really hard to achieve? Well, the protagonist, Lupe Medrano in, ”The Marble Champ,” by Gary Soto, does exactly that. From achieving your goals to feeling good about yourself, hard work is always the right choice for people all around the world. Hard work always pays off.

One way I know Lupe learned that her hard work paid off is because she was able to achieve her goals. For example, at the end of the story after she won she was running every which way, hugging people and yelling, “I did it! I did it!” She was very satisfied with herself. I know I would be very pleased if I were Lupe and knowing how hard I worked to get to there would make me feel even better. This illustrates that, hard work pays off because if she wasn’t determined to do good at her tournament she wouldn’t have been able to feel so good about herself. Also, if I were Lupe, I would only feel good about myself if I won, and that’s exactly what she did which definitely shows she had to work hard to get there. After she won, she realized that she could do anything if she put her mind to it and believed in herself.

In “The Marble Champ” everything proves that working hard can take you to many great places. The author, Gary Soto is trying to teach us that when you work hard you will achieve your goals while also feeling good about yourself. This applies to me because once when I was getting ready to leave a soccer tournament and I thought how if I wouldn’t have worked as hard as I did I wouldn’t have come all this way. I used to think that just trying for something one time would bring me a long ways, but this story teaches me that you have to try something for a long time to become really good at it. Hard work does pay
