On October 31, 2005 Teresa Halbach was murdered and raped by Steven Avery. This is relevant to the case because he is trying to get out of prison and convince people he’s not guilty for this murder. However, Avery is very dangerous and deserves to serve his prison sentence. Even though some people believe Avery’s not guilty, the evidence of his blood in Teresa’s RAV4 and her bones found in his firepit reveals he was at the scene of the crime. He even admitted to having a fire the night Teresa was murdered.

The investigation of Teresa's death resulted in finding an essential in Steven's residence, EDTA test being done, and log documentation of officers. Steven Avery is at the mercy of the Wisconsin court once again. Avery must defend himself against a county that has the belief of him being guilty for simply being an Avery. This is not the first time Manitowoc county assumed Avery's guilt before a trial occurs. Avery was brought before the Court on March 10, 1986, for the sexual assault, attempted murder and false imprisonment of Penny Beerntsen. Avery was sentenced to thirty-two years in prison by Judge Fred Hazelwood.

In his essay, “The Legacy of Antigay Discrimination” George Chauncey convinces readers that homosexuality discrimination has existed for a long time. Chauncey uses facts and statistics to strengthen his argument on harsh homosexual treatment in the past. Chauncey focuses on the treatment of homosexuals in the past to provide readers on the things they did not know about. For example, banning homosexuality in Hollywood films and American theater, the government, municipal work, and business associations. Chauncey includes how major rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly were denied and taken away from homosexuals because back then homosexuality was unacceptable in society.

The Dred Scott v. Sandford case had the greatest impact on Race Relations in America because it created a legitimate definition of the citizenship. Scott, a former slave, stated that because of his occupancy in a free state, he is a free man. The other side argued that Scott was still a slave and according to the fifth amendment, no person (master) can be deprived of their property. The initial impact of the case was in favor of the slave owner but this decision was overturned by the adoption of the thirteenth and fourteenth amendment. The thirteenth amendment ended slavery and the fourteenth amendment granted citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the United States included former slaves who had been freed after the Civil War.

Substitute the word “gay” in any of those cases, and the terms suddenly become far less loaded, so that the ring of disapproval and judgment evaporates. Some gay rights advocates have declared the term off limits. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance against slander, or Glad, has put “homosexual” on its list of offensive terms and in 2006 persuaded The Associated Press, whose stylebook is the widely used by many news organizations, to restrict use of the word. Miss Suhashini a, lecturer of Phycology Department at UTAR who was currently doing research about LGBT has looked at the way the term is used by those who try to portray gays and lesbians as deviant. What is most telling about substituting it for gay or lesbian are the images that homosexual tends to activate in the brain, she said.
