Impact of the Media on American Culture The definition of media ethics can be translated into the broader concept of social responsibility. This concept determines what is acceptable or not, right or wrong, good or bad in the ways the media collects and publishes information (Middleton, 2009). Media sociology has clearly shown that politics and news are immersed in the entertainment format. Commercialization, media logic and entertainment formats are the factors which explain how the relations between the media and politics have changed (Altheide, 2004). This paper aims to determine whether the information media has a social responsibility and its role in the shaping of the political opinions. Moreover, the paper aims to determine how electronic media and their convergence have transformed media consumption.

Therefore, the media are forced to compete for the audience by developing new formats and combining news and entertainment. Moreover, the social media enable the personalized delivery of information, and the media aim to maintain their reputation and to engage the consumer through the consumer generated content, like comments, re-posts, and blogs.
