Rhetorical Analysis of FDR’s “First Inaugural Address” In a time of great fear, especially from a depression that had gripped the nation, many people were not sure where their next meal would come from, or even when it would come. Most of the Nation had lost a lot of trust in their governments’ abilities to lead and care for them, and were very hesitant to trust new leadership. It was in these conditions that a new leader was found, one that would lead the United Sates through its’ greatest test.
In Sharon Olds’ poem, “Rite of Passage”, she explores the expectations of what it takes to be a man, doing so by describing a gathering of young boys at her son’s birthday party. The young boys in the poem act in such a way as to imitate men, making clear what type of behavior they believe is expected from men, which is seen throughout the poem through their interactions with one another. It is this imitation that is the rite of passage which gives the poem its name. While the title of the poem denotes an event that we tend to think of as being concrete and a milestone in itself, it is used in this case to illustrate the transition between the innocence of childhood and the seriousness of adulthood even if, like in the poem, it is only the pretense of such.

His speech consists of all five rhetoric canons which are invention, arrangement, style, memory and delivery. This speech also contains appeals such as ethos, pathos and logos.
In his youth, the narrator is relatively carefree. He is in good health, and focused on enjoying life. He begins the story concerned only for himself, and overtime begins using “we”. The death of his father leads him toward middle age, and the birth of his son completes this transition. He longs for the days of his youth, and has a regretful attitude.
But, in Charles Bukowski’s poem “Betting on the Muse”, he describes how the fear of deteriorating and being forgotten motivates an individual to work towards becoming someone of significance. This idea he expressed made me pause and reflect. Perhaps being the middle “forgotten” child is really a benefit towards who I will become. When I was six years old I was forgotten at a Dairy Queen by my parents.

Children with disabilities require a lot more support than those without a disability in order to help them develop their skills and become more independent. Disabilities can affect more than one area of a child’s development depending on what disability they have and what support is available in order to help improve the child’s needs etc. Emotionally children are affected due to them maybe having signs of depression where they are quiet than the rest of the children and they shy away from joining in with different activities and getting involved with other children.
The author gives the reader the question of if he/she would be able to live in their perfect utopia if they had the knowledge that a young child was having to suffer in exchange. The possible political stance behind this work leads one to question it more and wonder if there is such thing as our own Omelas in maybe a smaller less harsh form. “The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas” is a very powerful work, and once analyzed, could potentially lead to questions about our presence in the world that we live in

In the poem, “A Hymn to Childhood,” Li-Young Lee talks about having fragmented individuality from childhood due to war. He is lost in perception of a traumatic childhood caused by war and a normal naïve childhood. Lee depicts the two diverged childhoods from his memory through the use of antithesis to emphasize the world perceived by a self fragmented individual. Throughout the poem, he consistently presents two opposing ideas to show what it feels like to grow up with emotional trauma.
