The compromises of the previous decade could of have postponed the civil war and accelerate the civil war. The civil war was inevitable because of Missouri Compromise of 1820, Compromise of 1850, Fugitive Slave law, and Dred Scott Decision.
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was about all states that are north of 36 degrees north latitude were to be free except Missouri. All states below the line would become a slave state so far there were some problems. The northerners wanted there to be no slavery while the southerners want to expand to the West to have more agricultural land and to be able to expand the use of slaves. Therefore the northerners women decided to have flyers or newspaper to spread the word that the slaves were not free in the north.The compromise of 1850 also had that New Mexico and Utah were able to choose popular sovereignty which meant that the people of that state got to choose if they became a free or a slave state. Other states that got to choose popular sovereignty was Kansas and Nebraska from the Kansas-Nebraska act. This broke one compromise which was the Missouri compromise of 1820 because it stated that any state above the 36 30 would be a slave state so many people went to Kansas. The term bleeding Kansas came because an abolitionist called John Brown killed 5 people in their sleep with a group of people. The John Brown leads a group to Harpers Ferry, Va and leads a slave revolt was he was found guilty and was hanged.This compromise did not postpone the civil war instead it accelerates
