What I learned that certain events may occur and it will change your thought over something. The steps I had to take was to write a outline overview of what my essay was going to be like and think about the argument and claims I had to pick to support it and find quotes in the book that support my claims. We had to do timed essay about are theme of the essay were going to on. The way we wrote the essay was in TIED format because it would be easier to introduce the claim and back it up with evidence and finally discuss what it means. The leadership skill I used was to complete project effectively because I had to concentrate what I was writing about.
When registering for this class, a wave of worry ran through me, because I had minimal skill when it came to writing, particularly in the field of formal writing. The high school I attended was academically poor, we never wrote formal papers, just informal book and movie responses. Therefore I was apprehensive about this class. This course was quite intricate, but I attend skills that will aid me for the rest of my academic career. Rhetorical knowledge, critical inquiry, process, and conventions are all concepts I have acquired.
Over the course of English 1302 at Texas Tech, I feel that my skills as a writer improved significantly. When beginning the class, I knew little about writing a literature review or researched argument. With the help of my instructor’s lectures and the University Writing Center, I was able to effectively get my point across effectively while forming a well developed and well spoken manner. The advice given to me about argumentative essays and integrating sources helped significantly over the course of this class, and the skills learned in English 1302 helped me in other classes this semester when writing as well. One of the things I have learned that influenced me the most was my professor’s advice about an argument.
I learned how to formulate a restricted, unified, and precise thesis statement. I am now able to organize essay content into introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs. I also learned how to construct and organize unified, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs. I am able to apply grammar and usage rules correctly and develop clear, concise sentences. I learned about parallelism, run-on, comma splices and sentences.
I’ve only gotten three responses through the two papers that we have done, so I have been working mostly on my own to try and find ways that I can improve my essay. Nothing has really surprised me thus far in the class. I have enjoyed the prompts that we have done for our papers and I have enjoyed giving feedback and reading other papers from other students. As I said earlier, I think my best piece of writing was my Evaluation Essay. I was writing about something I enjoyed doing (watching movies) and I was excited to share my opinion with everyone, so I think those factors contributing to my Evaluation Essay being better than the Literacy Narrative.

The weekly reading assignments were very helpful. Some of the topics were great refreshers of common mistakes made when writing; these knocked some of the cobwebs in my mind loose. The other topics with sample writings gave me an idea of what to do. The instructor feedback and the revision recommendations were probably the most helpful tools in my composition process.
Being a part of this course has helped me improve my writing in different areas such as my grammar, editing, and planning. Being that, when I got back my teacher 's essay edited the first thing I noticed was all my grammar and my paragraph structure were all off. As a result, after I turn my essays in I always review my paragraphs and sometimes I even ask my friends to read over my essays to see if I need to improve either my paragraph structure, thesis or conclusion. Another, way I tried to improve my grammar, editing skills, and planning is
Over the this past semester in freshman composition I have learned how to write a college level paper. Going into this class, I was a little unsure and scared that I wasn’t going to be able to do the things that were required for me to do. As the semester passed I could definitely see a change in my writing. I learned how to use the appropriate punctuation, how to write and refute an argumentation paper, which I believe is my strongest piece of writing and how to research and gather information to write a strong research paper. I knew coming into this class that I was going to struggle with my punctuations, word choice, and the overall flow of the paper.
During the course of this semester, I feel that I have grown substantially as a writer. I think that I could improve even more with practice as well as using a few resources. This class has helped me drastically by improving my writing structure but I think it could have been even better if I had spent my time more efficiently. Overall this class has been very beneficial to me and I think it will really help me in the future. When I started this class I took a completely different approach to writing a paper.
Most transformative moments in life can be caused by the smallest of occurrences in life. Often people do not even realize that a pivotal moment in their life is happening. Someone may realize when they are mature enough that there was one special moment during their childhood that ultimately determined their lifelong goal. For others, they probably realized an “aha” moment right when it happened and from then on decided that they knew what they want to accomplish later on. I actually have taken from both sides of the spectrum from realizing that one special transformative moment but also not even knowing that it would end up steering me towards my current career choice.
At the start of this course I could barely write a coherent paragraph. I believe that I can now write a passable academic essay. I have grown much more confident in my writing skills. The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
