In his short story, “The most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell conveys conflict between Rainsford and General Zaroff as they face each other on a dangerous hunt. General Zaroff has offered Rainsford his freedom if he survives the three days of the hunt. During the build-up of the main conflict, the hunt, certain characteristics can be picked up from the characters. The author uses the changing conflict to portray aspects of the characters’ traits by describing the characters’ emotions or actions because it connects to how that character reacts. Through his fight with General Zaroff, reactions and words say a lot about a character much like Rainsford throughout the story. The things that Rainsford says in the beginning show his carelessness
