People always say that the best inventions ever are phones or computers, but there is one that people take for granted. This invention changed the way we look at shipping forever. The Transcontinental railroad changed the United States economically more than socially or politically because, it allowed western states export their goods easier, increased the amount of goods exported, and made it cheaper for states to export their products. The U.S was changed more economically, because it helped transport the western states goods to the east so it could be transported. Lovelock Nevada was a city that mined silver.
Traveling for trade’s or for visit was a lot more faster after the steamboat was invented. It was a lot more easier to travel upriver and going against its current. Before the steamboat was even invented, they took more time and a lot more energy when going up steam or against the current. The use of steam speed up the efficient transportation of perishable good and trades. Steamboat was extremely valuable during the civil war.
From the late 18th century to the early 19th century, the Industrial Revolution in the United States created advancements in the fields of manufacturing and technology. One of the most influential innovations that emerged from this period was the telegraph. Invented by Samuel F. B. Morse, the telegraph transformed how information was transmitted by allowing messages to be sent and received over long distances. The invention influenced many sectors of the economy, including warfare. Most significantly, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln was the first to deploy this technology to gain a strategic advantage over an opponent.
The American economy was greatly influenced by advancement in the 1800’s, which caused many changes in society and regional identities. Some of these advancements were in the areas of technology, agriculture and commerce. In this period we saw inventions such as the sewing machine, the waltham-lowell factory system, and railroads sweep the nation, and drastically alter the United States economy. The first advancement that impacted the nation was the sewing machine.
The cotton gin was a machine that was able to take off seeds much faster than hands. (Davidson 388). It was able to speed up the process of cleaning cotton, so planters were able to produce more than before. Secondly, the telegraph. Invented by Samuel Morse, it allowed communication over long distances (Davidson 378).
Automobiles. Telephones. Lightbulbs. These were some of the major technological innovations created during 1865 to 1920. These creations impacted many Americans, even to this day.
In 1830 the Baltimore and Ohio railroad tested a steam powered train this lead to Americans developing their own railroads.(pg. 256) Railroads helped transport goods and people move across the country faster than ever before. Railroads were used for many other things including transporting mail from one place to another. This helped people communicate with one another faster. By 1810 and 1820’s the number of letters delivered sent out went up by five million annually and cut the time in half to reach between cities and states.
During the time period of 1860 to 1918, numerous new inventions and innovations were introduced into the modern world. Inventions such as typewriters, telephones, electric light bulbs, and radios became essential to the lives of people throughout the industrial world. Additional inventions in the transportation sector, including cars, airplanes, and trains, were developing quickly. Trains especially were viewed as exceedingly influential because they provided useful advantages for present and future generations, notwithstanding the fact that many people were opposed to the formation of such railroads. People were able to appreciate the immediate benefits railroads had to offer along with the long-term advantages for future generations.
Through his efforts and many others, people created modern wonders that continued to change the world. Some of the inventions that helped shape the future included the steam engine, national roadways, the Erie Canal, and the telegraph. The steam engine would lead to inventing the steam press for printing, the steamboat and locomotive for transportation, and other steam powered machines for factories. The buildings that made up these factories were transformations of neccesity.
In 1870, the invention of the railroad made these trip attainable and the West accessible. Since the West was now more easily accessible, Americans were able to use the newly attained land to farm and transport goods back to the East. As a result, innovation and advances in farm equipment occurred, which boosted production. Therefore, the railroads changed how goods were transferred and made them more accessible to everyone.
And industry was totally undeveloped, forcing households to act as miniature factories, producing almost everything they would need. In the 1800’s though, the lives of nearly all Americans was changed. Transportation has revolutionized trade and the connections between different places. In early America, roads were in such bad shape traveling any significant distance was dangerous. Commerce was driven by rivers.
One of them was the invention of the Steam Engine which was invented by Robert Fulton. The Steam Engine was first launched on the Hudson River in New York. It was the first line of steamboats invented. Another huge invention which increased our transportation was the railroads. Which also relied on a steam engine to power the trains.
When people mention the industrial revolution, many think of the early 1900s when the surge of new technologies and industrial improvements began. From the changes in the technological use of materials like iron and steel that opened up new markets to new jobs and a booming economy, the United States was a force to be reckoned with. People reminisce with great pride on a time when the United States became a powerhouse of one-third of the global products used internationally. However, with good comes bad and a major issue that still affects us today is the depletion of natural resources. While technological improvement opened up new markets they are also the reason for environmental destruction and irreversible damage.
In the prime years of the 1800’s railroads and canals played a great role in improving the U.S. Railroads and canals help industrialize the U.S.; making it easy to import and export goods globally. The development of railroads was one of the most important spectacles of the Industrial Revolution. Canals were man-made rivers which were deep enough to deal with ships which were capable of moving nearly forty tons of weight. Economic expansion spurred the building of canals to speed goods to market. The railroads and canals brought an economic change to the country because it made trading resources between states and other countries easier.
