“You coming?” The last thing that was said to Will from Shawn before Long Way Down abruptly ended. The statement leaves people wondering, “What did Will do afterwards?” “Did he end up killing the wrong person?” “Who would he kill?” “Did he end up killing Shawn’s alleged killer?” “Would he have killed the right person?” To explain, Will has experienced the death of his brother and is out to seek revenge. Will gets a gun in his possession and gets into an elevator to kill Shawn's alleged killer, Riggs. As he goes down the floors, one by one, he meets with people from his past. Out of all the people that Will had met, I believe that Mikey Holloman had the most impact on Will and what Will will get into. Mikey Holloman is Will’s father and had the greatest influence on Will because of Mikey’s backstory. According to Long Way Down, it is stated,“Shawn always said our dad was killed for killing the man who killed our uncle(Reynolds 195)” Another statement from the book quotes, “ What do you think you should do? Mikey asked, “Follow the Rules [Will] reply just like I told everybody else, just like you did”(Reynolds 202). These 2 quotes prove that Mikey has a big effect on Will. Will looks up to his dad and doesn’t want to ruin the expectation of what everyone else, including his dad, thinks of him. Furthermore,the first quote shows that it is “normal”/needed to avenge someone dear to you, just like how his father did and his father’s killer avenged. This will give Will the impression that it is necessary to kill Riggs. It is the way that many of his family members have gotten killed by avenging their loved one. It seems like the only way, because of “The Rules”. This can be shown
