In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn the author Mark Twain uses the n-word constantly throughout the book. In today's society we could never use the n-word because today it is considered to be a bad word. It is considered to be a word that rascally describes African American people and they take offense to that word.But do you think that we should take that word out of one of the most popular books in American Literature? I think that we should not take out the n-word in the book Huckleberry Finn because this was a word that described people from the African American descent.
I have to agree with David Bradley in the film because of the excellent points he makes. He talks about the idea that Twain, when writing the book was thinking about the times then. Back when this book was published the n-word was used to describe the African American slaves.During the time of this book, young children and even adults used this word because that was what they were taught to do when they saw a black person. So I think that we shouldn't take out this word just because in today's society it's not ok. This was an important topic back in the day and I feel like those events that happened back then is an important part in history even still today. …show more content…

He says that this word has been apart of the past and it just grabs readers attentions by putting this word in the text. I would have to agree with him it does grab the reader's attention. It makes us think about the past and I think that is exactly what Twain wanted us to do when reading his book. It just a word that makes everyone feel uncomfortable but that's what makes it a great book it makes you think. This part of history needs to be talked about we can't just act like it didn't happen and in Twain's we do just that,
