The adventures of Huckleberry Finn by writer Mark Twain is a very divisive book and the reason for that is because of it controversy with racism. It is banned from lots of school because they believe that it could make a lot of students uncomfortable. Maybe making them uncomfortable is a good thing. High school students can see how it was like back then for the black people and how they were treated. They weren 't treated as humans at all.

Not only one, but many different people/groups have banned Mark Twain’s classic due to the consistent theme of race. The book is considered inappropriate because of how Mark Twain regards African Americans and Indigenous people. Historically, it is off of many school bookshelves because many may argue that the book even promotes racism. One month after the book’s debut in 1885, a library in Concord, MA stated that Twain’s novel was "trash and suitable only for the slums".

There’s a difference between making a decision for the better good and because it supports a certain belief. For instance, one person’s beliefs may benefit him/her but put someone else at risk. In Huck Finn’s case, he is forced to protect and lie for Jim despite it putting himself at risk as well. His decision, in turn, makes him care for Jim as a person and become more humane.
I think Huckleberry Finn should be taught in high schools all across the country rather than in college. The reason it should be taught in high school is because it really shows how harsh real life is and the troubles people face every day. Also, it shows how life was like back in the day giving students a chance to relive the past most people want to forget. There are many views of this topic that are contradicting in this paper I will go into my view and explain my reasoning. Most people want to shield high school students from the harsh realities of life that they will eventually find out.
