One must be able to recognize and analyze how censorship is used to manipulate the masses; if one is unable to recognize and analyze censorship in all forms then it can affect everyday life in a negative way. For instance, censorship is a restriction on any source like books, media, films that are considered politically unacceptable, obscene, or a threat. Common sources of censorship is mass media which include the news, social media, tv , newspapers, etc. Additionally, mass media can be part of censorship because some of the sources can be bias meaning they show only one view or opinion on a specific topic or category. One common practice involves censorship. For instance, Nazi Germany used propaganda to influence the way people see or think about race, specifically the jews. A form of censorship the Nazi party used is banning other political parties In 1933. In order for them to have complete control. Another example is when Nazi Germany built concentration camps to get rid of jews, gypsies, homosexuals, artist, intellectuals, etc. Which is a form of censorship that appeals to people’s fears it helps nazi’s control Germany. Additionally, Nazi Germany used the concentration camps to scare people specifically jews in order to have order and to show that whatever people do that goes against the nazi Germany’s beliefs will get punished. Nazi Germany banned other political parties so that they can have complete control, but also so that they can make sure people have one opinion about the decisions being made. If Nazi germany were to give the Germans an opinion to views then the german’s would most likely have less power. By restricting the german’s political views they are showing censorship. They are restricting the information that politically Germans would need in order to make choices, thus making Nazi germany a dictatorship. Two ways someone can get all the relevant information about a topic is by looking at multiple sources and fact checking. Another way people can understand all the perspectives of ideas is by evaluating bias/credibility of the sources, by following these steps the person will be able to get all information that is credible and trustworthy. An example for getting relevant information by looking at multiple sources is looking at MSNBC, Fox News and La Times on the same ideas but they have different views and opinions. Another example from our studies is the movie Shattered Glass when no one bothered to fact check Steven glass’s stories until after evaluating his credibility of the source of the stories. Someone must have an open mind to new ideas, possibilities and they must look at all the facts. The person must also contain certain traits that will assist with making informed choices. For instance they must be independent meaning the person won’t run in a crowd or choose the same opinion or idea because everyone else is. Another character trait someone must have is they must be able to take action, so the person has to be able to voice their opinion and speak out if the person believes that source is incorrect or the information given to them is incorrect.
