Leo Cherne once said, “The computer is incredibly fast, accurate, and stupid. Man is incredibly slow, inaccurate, and brilliant. The marriage of the two is a force beyond calculation.” Millions of people rely on technology and the Internet on a daily basis for connection to the world and receiving information. If we are able to use the Internet to help us everyday, then we should be able to use this same technology to help us in our academic courses.

Both of the essays “Studies Explore Whether the Internet Makes Students Better Writers,” written by Josh Keller and “The New Literacy: Stanford Study Finds Richness and Complexity in Students’ Writing, written by Cynthia Haven, targets a Study from Stanford University that questions whether or …show more content…

She talks about how the Study from Stanford, created by Lunsford, was a randomized sample of freshmen students and the numbers associated with the study itself. Haven also talks about how Lunsford was overwhelmed by the amount of entries she received for this study and goes on to explain that while kids are writing more than the previous generation, it focuses more on instant communication and about the audience in which they are writing to. Haven brings up a specific case for Mark Otuteye, who was one of the students that agreed to be interviewed every year. Josh Keller also brings up the Stanford Study in his own essay and makes it a point to talk about Mark Otuteye as well. While writing notes, watching power points, or listening to lectures might be helpful to some students, other’s may find it to drag on, be boring, or difficult to focus on and as a result they may not do as well as others. Every student learns differently and by using technology in a classroom setting, they may find it to be more appealing and less tedious. For younger children, educational games could be played on laptops or tablets in order for them to learn about the information while in a more interactive environment. For older students, they could create blogs, discussions, or other types of educational social media that could be shared later on to the class. The Internet can open up a world of education where students learn on technological platforms they are already experienced with and this can make it easier for the teacher to get the students more involved in their schooling, while making sure that they are learning in a manner best fitted for
