In Greek Mythology, there were Nine Muses born to Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of Memory (Hamilton, 39). Their names were Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Polyhymnia, Melpomene, Thalia, and Urania. Calliope was Muse Chief, Muse of epic poetry, and her symbol was a writing tablet. She had numerous children: Carybantes, Hymen, Ialemus, Linus, Rhesus, the Sirens, Oeagrus, and Orpheus. Clio,or Kleio, was the the Muse of History. She had 2 children - Hymenaios and Hyacinthos (Theoi). Erato was the Muse of Love Poetry and Mimicry. She had 1 child, Kleopheme, by Malos (Theoi).
