Twain also believed that the black African American was the greatest orator in America. Paragraph 2: Twain speaks about how the African American man would occasionally stop his preaching and begin imitating a bucksaw noise.

He once bet with a stranger on his frog being the highest jumper in Calaveras County. When Smiley wasn’t looking, the stranger filled the highest jumping frog with quail shot. Smiley then lost the bet and the stranger ran off with the money before Smiley could catch him.

Wheeler is originally asked about a man by the name Leonidas W. Smiley, but Wheeler started talking a completely different man by the name of Jim Smiley, a man with a gambling problem, who once lived in town. In “Baker's Bluejay Yarn” the narrator's name is Jim Baker.

It is in Gina article entitled “ The Jumping Frog story—both old and new” she helps makes the point that Mark Twain was not the first to learn of and hear of the origin Jumping Frog Story that in fact first appeared in a 1867 selection of short stories written by the Greek author Sidgwrick. I believe that even though Mark Twain was not the first author of the jumping frog story, Twain was able to help reshape this short shorty using his own words to help create a whole new story that only Twain could create. Mark Twain's Use of Satire in Huckleberry Finn Throughout his pieces of literature, the famous American author Mark Twain portrays his personal views of society using satire and irony in his stories. He makes fun of broken parts in the American society relentlessly and makes sure the readers understand how outrageous some acts were during the early-to-mid 1800s. Twain seems to target specific aspects in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn such as how young people could be conflicted between morality and legality, the loss of self-respect for money, and the effects of herd mentality. He has an interesting approach at giving the reader insight, but his main ideas for the theme shine through and are clearly depicted.
For the Unit 5 discussion forum I chose the short and humorous story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” by Mark Twain (1867). I picked this tale because of the author that I had already known during my studies many years ago. The short tale was included in the book having the same title published by George Routledge and Sons, London, in 1867; this book is a collection of humorous tales and it is considered as a masterpiece of Mark Twain’s literary production.
