What does the term “monstrous” mean? Is it something positive? Something negative? Is it possible for technology to become monstrous? The term “monstrous” can be referred to as something that is inhumanly or outrageously evil or wrong. The same term can be applied when dealing with a problem in society that has been caused unintentionally by technology. In the book Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, the main character in the book, Victor, was obsessed with technology and discovering new things. Victor blames his love for knowledge on his father by saying “My father was not scientific, and I was left to struggle with a child's blindness, added to a student's thirst for knowledge.”(Shelley) Because of this, he decided to make it a mission to create the most unbelievable thing he could think of, so he created a monster. …show more content…

The same can be the result of technology specifically through social media. At one point in time social media was used as a great source of entertainment because it gave people access to express their ideas and allowed their friends to see a fraction of their personal life. This was a really important time in history because it was something no one had ever experienced. It allowed people to communicate, socialize, intermingle, and find connections within the click of a button. However, there can be several drawbacks with social media that can turn very negative.
