Book 1: The story begins years after the Trojan War with Odysseus who is held captive on the island of Ogygia. A council is held between the gods on Mt. Olympus where Athena pleads for him to be released so that he can return home. Athena also talks to his son about finding Odysseus.

Book 2: An assembly is drawn by Telemachus to discuss the suitors residing in his home and stealing his fathers place. A soothsayer appears to warn the suitors that if they do not leave, a massacre will take place. Later, Telemachus is convinced by Athena to go searching for his father which he does.

Book 3: Telemachus arrives at Pylos and talks to King Nestor. Nestor however offers no information about the whereabouts of Odysseus. The only thing he knew was that Odysseus …show more content…

He explains how he performed sacrifices so that he could attract the souls of the dead. Upon doing this, he talks to Tiresias, the prophet, who tells him how he will reclaim his wife but then travel away to appease Poseidon. He finishes by talking about all the spirits he talked to.

Book 12: Odysseus explains how he had to travel past the land of the sirens without being drawn in. Then he tells about the Charybdis and Scylla encounter where he survives but later is punished by Zeus because his crew had slayed the cattle of the sun. Odysseus ends his tale back at the island of Ogygia.

Book 13: Odysseus sets sail upon finishing his story, and he sleeps through the night while his crew commands the ship. He is asleep upon arrival, however, Poseidon is still angry at the events taken place, so he sinks the ship. Athena and Odysseus make a plan to get revenge on the suitors in Ithaca.

Book 14: Odysseus is disguised by Athena as an old vagabond and he talks to Eumaeus. Eumaeus usually does not take kindly to old vagabonds but he offers Odysseus shelter along with a cloak to stay warm. Odysseus as the vagabond assures Eumaeus that Odysseus is still alive out in the
