Kameron Kubit Mrs. Manning ELA 9 5/9/23 Gabe Throughout The Other People, Gabe is one of the greatest characters. Gabe’s personality traits make him the most unique out of any other character in the story. Watching Gabe go through the quest of finding his daughter, even if it could risk his life is something that could not be felt the same way from another character’s point of view. Gabe, One of the main characters in C.J. Tudors’s “The Other People” is shown to be faithful, traumatized, and sympathetic. Gabe’s faithfulness is a single key aspect to finding his lost daughter, Isabella. Gabe sees no reason to stop looking for his daughter, to the point where it becomes an obsession. He tirelessly and aimlessly searches for her, against all pieces of evidence brought for him. On page 54 of The Other People, the narrator states, “Oh, they would be nice. Patient. Understanding. To a point. The point where they treated him like he was crazy. Just like before.” This quote shows how Gabe had done this …show more content…
Towards the middle of the story, Gabe is debating on whether or not he should throw away his daughter’s belongings. On page 195 of The Other People, it states, “But the image of Izzy’s face that afternoon in the garage always stopped him. ‘“Are you throwing them away?”’ If he let this go, then it would be the beginning of the end. He would be letting her go, casting aside the life jacket of hope that kept him afloat these last three years.” This quote tells the reader that Gabe is in distress. It shows how he is having difficulty getting rid of her things because he does not want to let go of any part of her that still remains. He thinks of her belongings as her and if they go away, then he feels the same pain he did when his daughter went away. This issue he has with his child also helps him sympathize with
