How is Dallas Winston the ideal Outsider? Dally is the ideal Outsider because he is always getting in trouble and he doesn’t care about going to jail or getting in trouble with anyone. Dally is only 17 and he has already been to jail. He doesn’t follow rules and he pretty much just does whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences because he is not afraid of the police. In fact, he goes out of his way to break the law. Sadly, Dally cannot love anything- the fight for self preservation during his time in New York and his time in jail has hardened him beyond caring.
