Thesis: The dystopian society of Divergent and the reality of the Outsiders are both different and similar books.

Similarities and Differences Format:
Intro
Divergent is a book about Tris, a courageous 16 year old girl who runs away from home because of her divergence and has to overcome obstacles to survive. While the Outsiders is about Ponyboy, a 13 year old boy who is part of the disliked greaser group and lives with his two brothers.

Divergent

She believes that everyone should fit into a group and believes she is right about everything. Very direct
Tris is marked as Divergent causing her to choose Dauntless over Abnegation and her family. She quickly makes friends and establishes herself with the Dauntless. She does this by being the first to jump and how she does her training. After Tris passes her initiation, all the non-Divergents of Dauntless are mind controlled by Jeanine. She stops the mind control at the end.
Theme: Don’t let “normal” determine you.
Outsiders
Ponyboy, an intelligent 13 year old boy. He relies heavily on his two brothers and experiences loss at a very young age.
The Socs are the major antagonists because they despise the greasers. They mainly separate based on net worth and often attack who provoked.
1. Pony is assaulted by the Socs. 2. Johnny kills Bob. 3. Pony and Johnny run to a church. 4. The church burns down with children in it. 5. Johnny takes a hit and is hospitalized. 6. Greasers rumble with the Socs. 7. Johnny dies. 8. The dystopian society of Divergent and the reality of the Outsiders are both different and similar books. 9. Darry dies. 10. Pony writes a book expressing his feelings.

The antagonist character in Divergent has a large impact, but the protagonist has a main person to put to rest while the protagonist in Outsiders can’t stop the group antagonist. 2. The antagonist in Divergent not appearing until the end was a major difference as the start/middle was interesting, but the antagonist wasn’t bothering the protagonist. While the antagonist in Outsiders was always there and a threat/bother, impacting the story in different ways. 3. Family was important in both stories, but Outsiders had a Family>Friends while Divergent has a Friends>Family impacting the books as a whole. 4. The setting and situations were different like how Tris was constantly being hunted in a dystopian society and her life was threatened at all times meanwhile the worst thing that could happen to Pony is like he gets beat up and sent to
