The first setting that appears in the book The Outsiders is the drive-in movies. During the drive-in movie, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dallas meet two girls named Cherry and Marcia. They had some food and the girls asked Johnny and Ponyboy to sit next to them and “protect” them if Dally came back. While Cherry and Ponyboy were getting some food, Ponyboy was telling Cherry some stuff about the Greasers.
Throughout the novel, there is a constant struggle for power between the two gangs resulting in many injuries and a few deaths. The main character, Ponyboy, also experienced near-death a few times. He is a greaser who lives with his two brothers, Darry and Sodapop, and has several friends who him and his brothers are very close with, including Two-Bit, Dally, and Johnny. The mutual loyalty that Ponyboy’s friends and family shared with each other, ended up saving Pony’s life multiple times.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a fictional young adult book with many conflicts covering themes such as: don’t judge a book by its cover, leave the past behind, you never know what someone’s going through, and more. It stars a group/gang called the Greasers, the main character and narrator being Ponyboy. This gang is a group of teenage boys/young adults who are on the poor side of this area. The members of the Greasers are Ponyboy, Johnny, Sodapop, Dally, Darry, Two-Bit, and Steve. There’re also the Socs which are the “rich and spoiled” kids in the book.

Hinton’s Novel The Outsiders Dally is hard, cold, and unbreakable. however, at the end of the story, his emotions overcome him because of what he went through.
Ponyboy, a greaser, was one of the young boys that was matured throughout the book because of his hardships. Ponyboy 's relationship with his older brothers, Darry and Sodapop, is a key factor in how Ponyboy matured throughout the book. An example of Ponyboy almost maturing from the influence of Darry and Sodapop, is when their parents were killed in a car crash. When their Parents died it caused them to get closer and look out for eachother more (#3).
Ponyboy feels that both gangs are actually very similar, but no one is able to accept each other for who they are so they judge each other on clothing, hair, smell, and even just the way they talk. The greasers live on the east side of Oklahoma. Their lifestyle is different because the greasers live outside of the town and don't have as much money
The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.
Then there 's the Greasers, who live poorly and get blamed for most of the things that go down in the city. Ponyboy, and Johnny, two Greasers, that at first, clang to the fact that they hated Socs. All they wanted to do was fight the other gang to look tough and earn respect. In the beginning of the story, Ponyboy wishes he looked tough.
They run away to an abandoned church which burns down and Johnny is hurt when saving the kids inside. When Johnny is taken to the hospital, Pony reunites with his brothers, the greasers and the Socs have a huge rumble, he gets to know Randy, and Johnny and Dally die. With Ponyboy and Johnny being the nice kids they are the tell Dallas to leave them along making get upset and leaving. After that the girls hang around with them for awhile until their boyfriends show up drunk and angry that two other guys are talking to their girls. The girls go home with them and Ponyboy and Johnny leave. Later that night they run into them again and they remember them starting a fight. Bob one of the Socs gets killed in the fight by Johnny in fear that he was going to kill Ponyboy.
However, he is negatively affected by it. An example of Ponyboy accepting his stereotype is when he fights in the rumble against the Socs, with the other greasers. He is not ashamed to be fighting with his friends, even though he states that he has no reason for fighting. Additionally, Ponyboy is upset when he is forced to cut and bleach his hair, because he wanted to look “tuff” like his friends.
Ponyboy lived with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop after his parents were killed in a car accident. Ponyboy had some friends in the gang: Steve, Two-Bit, Dally but his best friend was a boy named Johnny who was considered the gang`s mascot. Ponyboy was a boy who always wanted to be tough but an accident that happened in the story might make him change of mind on what he wanted to be. He also finds a way of how to finish the gang that was taking place from many tima.
