Did you know that gangs have been around for a long time and have caused many problems in society? In the novel,The Outsiders by S.E Hinton the greasers always have a lot of grease in their hair and the Socs don’t. The Socs are rich and live in rich neighborhoods,while the Greasers live in the hood. The Socs have “social clubs,” while the Greasers have “gangs.” And the Greasers are more genuine and open with their emotions than the Socs. Both the Socs and Greasers deal with the tendency to fight with each other,have troubles with their lives,and engage in criminal activities. In the book The Outsiders on pg.34 Cherry tells Ponyboy “I’ll tell you something Ponyboy,and it may come as a surprise. We have trouble you’ve never even heard of. You want to know something? Things are rough all over.” Cherry was explaining that even though Socs are wealthier than the Greasers,just because they have money,doesn’t mean that they don’t have feelings or face the same problems as the Greasers. So,this shows that the Socs wealth doesn’t automatically bring them happiness,or solve their problems. And in the book on pg. 43 Ponyboy also tells Two-Bit “It ain’t fair! It ain’t fair that we have all of the rough breaks! Things were rough all over,all right. All over the East Side. It just doesn’t seem right to me.” Ponyboy mentions how is gang have been through rough patches by dealing with problems with school,jobs,family,and also on being a hoodlum. This explains how the Greasers deal with problems everyday because of how emotional they are and also,because of their family problems.
