Imagine waking up and being unsure if it's safe to walk outside your house. This is shown in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book takes place in Oklahoma, 1960. It shows two different types of groups called the Greasers and Socs. They get into many fights which cause problems. Throughout the book, Hinton develops the theme that violence leads to more violence as shown when Johnny kills Bob, Johnny dies from injuries from a church fire, and Dally gets shot. First, Johnny kills Bob in a park late at night. Johnny and his best friend Ponyboy were on their way back from the drive in theater. They ended up in a park after them not wanting to go home, this is where they saw Bob. In the text it states, ¨´I killed him,´ he said slowly. ´I killed that boy.´ Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight,¨(Hinton 56). Ponyboy and Johnny got jumped that night. Pony was drowning and Johnny had a knife so he had to save Pony before he was dead.The two boys were scared and didn't know what would happen next. When Dally was in the room when Johnny died, Dally was very upset. The author states,¨..slamming one fist against the wall, hammering it to make it obey his will. ´ Oh, damnite, Johnny. Don't die, please don't die..´¨ (Hinton 149). Dally took this very hard and knew that Johnny was his only hope. Afterwards, Dally didn't go home. He robbed a store and was getting chased by the police. Dally ran to the park and saw the rest of the greasers from a distance. The text states,¨Dally raised the gun. And I thought: You blasted fool. They dont know youre only bluffing. And even as the policeman's guns spit fire into the light I knew that was what Dally wanted,¨ (Hinton 154). Dally died because of Johnny's death, he was the only thing Dally loved. In conclusion, Dally got shot because of Johnny's
