In the short story "The Parsley Garden" the protagonist Al has a variety of many characteristics. To begin with, Al seems to be an honourable boy. For example, he was immensely bothered by the fact that he got caught stealing, indicating his honesty. In addition, the book also suggests that he 's a hard worker, " 'I worked all day, ' Al said. 'Mr. Clemmer gave me the hammer after I 'd worked one hour, but I went right on working '" (pg. 78) One of the most noticeable traits of Al, is his affection towards his mother.
