The best part is about the past is that it shows what not to bring to the future. I was always told this as a kid and have thought about this through out my life. It shows how we should learn from the pasts and its mistakes. In the story A Rose For Emily Emily represents the connection people have with the ideas and experiences of the past. Emily is a long time resident of the town and after her death the funeral brings in hundreds of people. After Emily's father death she went into a deep depression. Her life was filled with secret and mystery. In this short story Emily father is a well renowned man who is very wealthy. They live in a mansion with, it is presumed that is it, money made of slave and cotton. They live a very happy life which there one servant. They are viewed as a key point to the town and very important. After Emily's father died they see her as a major memory of him and his effect on the town. They stop her form paying taxes out of respect. This connects with the thesis but showing how we enjoy the past and showing our respect for it. They no longer let Emily skip on her taxes. This shows how things changed over time. The town starts to wonder where she is and going to her house. They what her to get out and come back into the community but she doesn't. Every thing changes when Emily meets Homer. Homer is a local construction who brings Emily back into the community. This turns out to be where the story goes down hill. She falls in love with homer but there are rumor in the town that he is gay. This leads her to kill him out of anger. She buys rat poison, which people hope she is going to end her life. This shows how then the past mixes with the present bad things can happen. This lead to people stop poking her and the past fading
