Adolescence is considered one of the most important levels of human development, as during this time the teenager starts to decide which path to select and go through for the rest of his life whether related to friends, education, traveling and other life decisions. In this stage, an individual can be himself or be under pressure from his surroundings and society to be someone else which can result to mental illnesses. The movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower “have demonstrated this psychological stage with its main character named “Charlie”, this guy was socially awkward and had a best friend in middle school named Michael, who has committed suicide in summer before Charlie joining high school as a freshman. He had mental illness and was bullied in middle school for his love of reading books, he had only limited friends, never experienced love in his life and had no self-confidence so he was easily dragged to bad habits. She was a character who was self-confident, had her own personality and a strong presence among her friends but she experiences love with Charlie and that led her to a confusion in her life between him and her boyfriend. Patrick was gay, he was going through self-collapse after his other gay friend stood against him and bet him, he also didn’t want to admit to the society about his sexual orientation because he wasn’t sure about whether his society would accept it or not. He wasn’t confident because he didn’t have anyone who would stand by his side in case anyone tried to abuse him until Charlie had his back when his gay friend and other thugs beat him in the food canteen.
