39 Steps is a play that's a comedic spoof of The 39 Steps film. The play is currently playing at the Union Square Theater and this is the first time that I have ever seen a play in my life and it was a one of a kind experience. With its 4 actors playing over 150 roles is a play that's quick and fast paced for the one that enjoy it.

The purpose of the playwright is to use quick changing scenes to be a comedic spoof. It uses satire to overexaggerate a majority of the scenes in the play. Even the boring act of Pamela taking her socks off can be used as a sexual joke. It makes sure that the audience knows that this isn't a play where you will cry of sadness but in fact of cry of laughter.

One of the most important in this particular play is the acting. The actors are good at adapting from one role to the next and switching accessories quickly. The different use of British and other accents in a stereotypical but serious way.

The director attempts to make the play successful by bringing everything to life and using the actors to do everything in a smooth and funny matter. The performers do bring the play to life and comedy with their acting skills their over the top and eccentric performances makes me question everything that happens to Hannay. The actors do tend to overact and exaggerate themselves which is what is needed in a comedy to laugh about ourselves but not being too silly or dramatic.

Acting: The acting is grandious, eccentric and goofy. The switching of roles is as quick as the blink of an eye especially the scenes with the traveling salesman, conductor and Hannay. They also use vocal sounds to reenact trains noises and other objects that aren't visual props but still make you feel as if they're there. The actors themselves being human props is a great thing that makes the play work. The funny accents especially of Hannay are quite comical.
