Subterranean Homesick Blues Again is a comedic play that soon turns tragic written by Dennis Reardon. The fantasy truly grasps of the horror between life and death as a young tour guide leads two bickering couples on a ghoulish path to hell, all the while to tousling with their minds. As the couples slowly deteriorate level by level, they realize much too late the danger around them; weeping as their souls and minds are consumed by the darkness of the treacherous cavern. Reardon portrays this elevator to hell as a series of floors that only seem to descend. The play was filled with fruitful comedy and goosebump inducing scenes. I listened from start to finish; a smile of laughter across my finish slowly fades into a grim expression with nothing to itter but “wow”. The beginning is riddled with exemplary humor;for instance, when the limestone formation named “God’s Organ” is presented to the tourists they begin laughing. Because of this it can be inferred that “God’s Organ” possibly resembles male genitals; therefore, it is funny when Mick says “That’s her specialty” when speaking of Naomi. Commencing with the first level named the “great cathedral” includes a formation called “God’s Organ”. This symbolizes a throat, as if the tourists were being swallowed down into the bowels of the cavern as they reach the second level. This level features a peculiar formation aptly named “The Head of Medusa”. I believe this symbolizes the starting deeriation of the tourists. The tourists continue into the third level all the while trying to avoid the gazing stone eyes of medusa. Finally, they reach the final level with the River Styx at center stage ready to usher the souls of the couples to their final resting place in a type of
